July 10/11
Ok, I had no idea you could grow a bed of cacti in Southern Ontario. My brother and sister-in-law have these in their garden and they bloom every year. They don't take them in so they survive over our winters...who knew? I looked it up and the "Opuntia Polyacantha" variety can grow here. The common name is "Prickly Pear" cactus. Apparently there are many Opunitias which should grow as long as you provide excellent drainage & full sun. I'm going to try and grow my own. Patti, I'll be over for some clippings :) I love the flowers...
